Mentor Spotlight Q&A with Mary:

Why do you do what you do?

I love what I do and have a passion to help people improve their skills and abilities. I enjoy watching my students grow and improve!

Name someone who has had a significant impact on you as a mentor? Why and how did this person impact your life?

I would say that Chuck Hogan made a huge impact on me as a mentor. Choosing golf as a profession, I learned from him that it wasn’t about “me” and what a perfect player or teacher I could become, but more about how I could make a difference in other people’s lives. When I learned “why” I chose golf, suddenly, my whole perspective began to change.

What does leadership mean to you?

A leader is one who can inspire , and assist in the motivation of others toward their own personal visions and goals.

What is something about your expertise that took you years to learn?

I learned that life was not all about golf, but golf IS life! It takes time to play golf. “Time is what golf is made of.”

What do you know now about living a fulfilled life that you didn’t know when you were in your twenties?

The strongest person in my life was my mother who made a huge impact on me as I was growing up, but I didn’t know it! She had a very strong personal faith. She taught me to “let go and let God.” It really didn’t hit me until much later in life.

What do you feel is the most helpful thing your parents did for you that you cherish today?

Their constant encouragement, love, and their demonstration of compassion for others in their lives were all helpful things that I cherish today.

What do you do for yourself and how do you stay centered?

Taking time for quiet times during the day as well as practicing my faith are the primary things I do to help me stay centered.

What are you doing daily to ensure your growth and development continue?

“Listening” to God by learning from others is my daily goal.
